The text reads:
I watched her a lot. Will her eyes ever stop their darting,
will her mouth ever soften, will her hands ever rest,
and if not - what will bring her quiet?
Was she overtired, not tired enough, overstimulated,
should she have run around more?
(did I mean to have treated her like a puppy?)
Did we not read enough? Did we read too much?
Did she need more than this, more than this love I gave her?
Just then her face softened. Her eyes grew heavy.
Her endless eyelashes blinked, danced, hovered,
like butterflies, flitting, fluttering - closing, closing…
sinking, sinking, until her butterfly wings fluttered no more.
Rest - rest my dearest child, and dream
